Dandruff: What is it?
Everyone's scalp sheds skin cells - it's normal. On a scalp that's in good condition, new cells are formed all the time and shed invisibly. Research has shown that dandruff is actually caused by a fungus called Malassezia. Now this is something that lives on every single person's scalp. Sometimes it gets a bit overactive, and instead of shedding invisibly, you're left with hundreds, or even thousands, shedding all at once. This over-activity can also make your scalp feel tight, dry, itchy. So not fun.
